Working with a regular 9-DOF IMU sensor usually requires complex coding and complicated sensor fusion algorithms to convert raw accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer data into accurate 3D orientation readings. Sensor fusion implementation is time-consuming and difficult to stabilize on low-cost embedded systems. The BNO055 solves this perfectly — it is an intelligent 9-DOF absolute orientation IMU sensor that performs all sensor fusion processing onboard. No complicated algorithm development is needed; you can get stable, ready-to-use orientation data within minutes. This module supports multiple high-rate data outputs: Absolute Orientation (Euler Vector / Quaternion, 100Hz), Angular Velocity Vector (100Hz), Acceleration Vector (100Hz), Magnetic Field Strength Vector (20Hz), Linear Acceleration Vector (100Hz), Gravity Vector (100Hz), and real-time temperature measurement. This BNO055 breakout board integrates a 3.3V voltage regulator, level shifting for I2C and reset pins, and an external 32.768KHz crystal oscillator for optimal measurement performance. All useful pins are broken out for easy wiring and project integration. Pin headers require simple soldering onto the PCB for use.
